What time is it? Summer adventure time!

The summer of 2021 divides people into two oppositions: those in the far north, who are having their once in a lifetime summer days and keep complaining about 2 months of pure sunshine and not a drop of rain; and those around here, who keep asking “oh wait, did summer start already?”

Okee, let’s rewind for a second. Yep, it totally has started, and the summer song keeps echoing in whichever tunes we decide to sing. A little musical humor. I personally keep choosing adventure-ish notes, because that is just who I am, and it happens to recharge me from the tip of my toes to the root of each and every single hair.

June started for me with splitboarding! I mean.. splitboarding in June! That sentence itself is kinda crazy. But yes, I was lucky and happy to have climbed one of the Swiss 4000er mountain peaks – Grosses Fiescherhorn – with my splitboard super late in the year. Waking up with the sun, seizing the glacier areas piled with vast freedom, putting on crampons to reach the 4048 m of altitude, breathing in sweet mountain air, just to slide into the wide with the board afterwards. Summer adventure pure, I’m telling you.

Getting down to Zurich, cool musical rehearsals were patting my back and my summer festival continued…

Maarja found herself a couple of weeks later in Rome. Thousands of Italians singing “Fratelli d’Italia, l’Italia s’è desta…” and Swiss “Trittst im Morgenrot daher, Seh’ ich dich im Strahlenmeer…” Guess what event?! The European Football Championship! Bingo! Sensational! Energizing! Thousands of people in that given moment and nowhere else! I had to wait for it 1,5 years of Corona, but a true football fan stands through it all for her team. Totally worth it and mozzarella al basilico e gelato made the adventure zu einem echten Genuss.

Next verse: July was singing about mountain climbing, wonderful hiking, and family time. Honestly, there is nothing more fulfilling and making me feel alive than pushing my limits here and there. Climbing some rocks at the grade of 5c was a new level for me and it reminds me of writing your own song – you go out there, you look deep into your own self and skills, and then just go create a story using these skills. Inspiration that comes from within. Hiking too is like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings said: “You’ll have a tail or two to tell when you come back... and when you do come back, you will not be the same”. I have a feeling being in the nature makes me a better version of myself each time again and again. Last, but not least, family time. I believe we all know how our family members are one of the longest and most everlasting adventure partners ever. It is in all the small and simplest, yet most meaningful moments that we make memories with them. That is exactly why through all the ups and downs and misunderstandings and laughter outbreaks, most of us have a huge bunch of summer adventure stories connected to their family members. I just need to think of a couple to have put a smile on my face. Adventure can be as small as strangers, who do not speak your language, just laughing with you and your sister, because you are #goodmoodimporters (an Estonian expression, which I just love: “hea tuju maaletoojad”). Or when you take your mother on a mountain hike for the first time in her life and witness pure joy.

To wrap up my summer adventures so far, I will not leave unmentioned the legendary event of July, the 18th, where the musical group of Gravity9 collaborating with the improvisation group brought a showcase on stage that left me personally filled with immense happiness and bubbling gratitude. Boy oh boy, are there amazing talents around us (and I am not talking about myself right now, but I have to admit I was proud of myself too for having forgotten all about my stage fright on the stage). Let me just say that whoever missed it this time, come check it out in the audience next time (get on the Gravity9 newsletter to stay tuned and ask me personally to send you a small clip to get the idea what was happening this time!).

Alrighty… August is on! That means there is still loads of time to write your own summer sonatas! Go go go and may “every little thing you do be magic… everything just turn you on!”

May your August ping-pong be strong and you guys perhaps even sing a rap song. Ha!
